HOLMEN, Wis. -- For a lot of kids, birthday's are a time of celebration and lots of gifts. But for a Holmen girl, each passing year is a way to help pay it forward.
This month's Student Making a Difference is 8-year-old Hannah Schroeder, a 2nd grader at Evergreen Elementary School in Holmen.
For the past three years, Hannah has told her friends and family to forget about getting her birthday gifts and instead make a food donation to the Hunger Task Force.
Her first year, she helped donate almost 100 pounds of food. This year, she helped donate 350 pounds.
"We need to help people in need. To help people that don't have any food," said Hannah.
Hannah also helps out around the Hunger Task Force, doing things like dusting and organizing the food.
She's even recruiting others to forego birthday gifts for food donations.
Her little sister did it for the first time this year and a couple of people who have attended her birthday parties are on board with the idea too.
