LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Some area students are awarded for taking a stand against crime.

La Crosse area high schoolers and middle schoolers were recognized Friday for creating 30-second public service announcements highlighting Crimestoppers or how to report a crime.

There were about two dozen entries submitted which the Crimestoppers board judged this week.

Students were also encouraged to focus on a more than decade-old student safety line which allows students to anonymously report others who may have weapons or drugs at school. "The schools have had the student safety line in place for quite some time now, but we wanted to try to encourage the students in the schools to maybe make it more known," said the President of La Crosse Area Crimestoppers Warren Thomas.

Winning entries earned a small monetary award.
