Onalaska students experience Careers on Wheels
Some Onalaska students get a chance to see some of the fastest moving jobs. It was the Careers on Wheels event at Irving Pertzsch Elementary Friday.
Eighteen different vehicles, including a police car, a National Guard hum-vee, and some construction vehicles filled the parking lot at the school.
A few dozen third grade students got to explore the rigs and learn about the careers associated with them.
Their teacher says it's an experience that stays with them even into high school.
"Kids last year came and talked to our kids this year, saying 'Oh my gosh, you're so lucky, you're going to love it!' So I think it's just the memory of doing it and seeing all the different opportunities, kids don't get this everyday to get into different vehicles," said 3rd grade teacher Kimberly Clark.
The News 8 live van was also there along with our Chief Photojournalist Chuck Oedsma to give the students a taste of life as a TV news reporter.
