Elementary school students put down their books and pencils Friday to play in the sand.
Emerson Elementary in La Crosse brought in a sand sculptor to teach the kids how to make art with sand.
The students worked side by side with the artist to create their own sand castles as a change of pace for the day.
Their art teacher says sand is a great tool for the students to use since you can find it all over La Crosse. "Every once in a while, it's a really good way to create a learning experience to break the routine of the daily grind of school to take them out and do something different and create lots of memories that way. It does something they'll never forget," said teacher Erich Boldt.
The sculptor visited students at Northside and Hamilton earlier this week.
