LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

An organization that helps support local teachers celebrated 25 years Monday.

The La Crosse Public Education Foundation held a luncheon to mark the anniversary.

The group awarded 23 different grants Monday totaling $43,000.

The money went to teachers and students who are pursuing innovative projects in the district, everything from robotics to wellness programs.

The foundation tries to award grants to projects that wouldn't normally have financial support. "The La Crosse Public Education Foundation takes great pride in funding projects that are not funded with tax dollars, where there are not district budget dollars available so we tried to provide resources when there are none," said foundation Executive Director Timothy Riley.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, some founding members were in attendance at the luncheon.
