LA CROSSE, Wis. -

Monday was the last day of school for kids in La Crosse.

It was a little bittersweet for some as it's the last day for students and staff at Franklin Elementary before it's torn down.

Residents voted last November to replace the building and combine Franklin, Roosevelt, and Coulee-Montissori all into one new building.

Administrators say crews will likely start demolishing the building some time next month. "I think there are mixed feelings. There's just a little bit of an unknown, and a little bit sad that an era is going to be coming to an end and a new era is beginning. But just tremendous excitement too," said Principal Laura Huber.

Students can look forward to the new Northside Elementary School being ready in fall of 2014.
