The YMCA is making sure all students have the opportunity to prepare for the A.C.T.
The Y is offering a free test preparation course for high school students at its teen center starting this Saturday.
The course is funded by a grant the Y received from the Cooperative Educational Service Agency or CESA 4 in West Salem. It's a three hour class that will run the next six Saturdays.
Organizers say it's a great way to make sure cost doesn't prevent students from getting the preparation they need. "We really want everything we do at the teen center and at the Y to be available to everyone regardless of their ability to pay so having it for free just opens it to a lot more students that wouldn't necessarily be able to take it otherwise," said the Y"s Teen Center Director Lisa Luckey.
The Y is partnering with UW-La Crosse's continuing education department to put on the course.
Nine students are signed up to take the course."It kind of prepares you for what you're going to experience on the test so you know what you should know in advance basically, and if you get a higher score it will definitely help you get into a better college," said La Crescent High School sophomore Emma Merets.
Organizers say the course will not affect normal teen center hours.
