The provost at the University of Iowa is refuting claims by two faculty members who say the top ranking official demanded records showing dissatisfaction with a school dean be destroyed.
Provost P. Barry Butler says in a statement that the documents have been added to the personnel file of Margaret Crocco, the dean of the College of Education.
The Des Moines Register reported Friday that two faculty members at the college released a letter to staff saying Butler and another top official demanded that written comments from a faculty survey be deleted.
The anonymous survey showed dozens of faculty at the college had expressed dissatisfaction with Crocco's performance.
Butler says the comments will be discussed at Crocco's upcoming evaluation.
Crocco tells The Associated Press she was surprised by the letter.
