IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -

The University of Iowa College of Education dean is resigning amid a dispute between faculty members upset with her performance and administrators who backed her.

The university announced Monday that Margaret Crocco will leave her post Friday after 18 months leading the college.

The announcement came days after all seven members of the college's Faculty Advisory Committee resigned in protest. The committee's chairman, Volker Thomas, and another employee claim high-ranking administrators ordered them to relinquish and delete copies of surveys that had comments critical of Crocco.

Provost P. Barry Butler says he took control of the documents so they could be added to Crocco's personnel file and discussed at her evaluation.

Butler says he is saddened to see Crocco leave, saying she "has all the traits of a great leader."
