LA CROSSE, Wis. -

School lunch changes are being lifted, at least for this school year.

Limits on grains and meats have been suspended meaning districts can serve larger portions of those items.

The changes come after school officials said they were having a difficult time buying alternative portion sizes of food from suppliers, and that some students were leaving lunch still hungry.

But not everything is becoming more flexible. "Same total amount of calories from that, just maybe potentially a slight shift in where those calories are coming from so I would say students would end up seeing a little bit more on their plates," said La Crosse School Nutrition Director Joni Ralph.

Unless food providers need more time to develop menus, the limits will return next year.
