CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -

Some parents and students have been sounding sour notes since a Cedar Rapids high school principal barred the show choir from traveling to Chicago for a national competition.

The Gazette reports that Jefferson High School principal Charles McDonnell notified teacher Kent Keating and associate choir director Brett Epperson in a letter that the West Side Delegation choir wouldn't be attending the April 26-27 FAME National Show Choir Finals.

Wednesday's letter cited conflicts with other activities, academic concerns and financial demands.

Some parents were miffed that they weren't consulted.

B.J. Franklin's son Quinn is in the choir, and she says she's frustrated by the decision. Franklin says the students worked hard and that the issue is bigger than just being able to go to Chicago.
