Xcel Energy says saying warm this winter will likely cost you a little extra.
The energy company estimates heating costs are going up 4-6%. That works out to be about $570 for the average homeowner over the course of the season.
Mike Herro with Xcel says it will truly come down to how cold it is this winter, but regardless, there are something homeowners can do to put some money back in their pockets.
"Set back thermostats where you lower the temperature a little bit at night time," says Herro, "insulation, caulking, plastic on the windows sometimes is good, it doesn't save a lot of money, the plastic, but it's very good for comfort."
Xcel does offer payment plans if you're having a hard time paying your bill.
