Officials have identified the Mazomanie woman found dead Sunday night as 43-year-old Cheryl Gilberg.
Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney said in a news conference Tuesday the medical examiner ruled that Gilberg died from "homicidal firearm violence to the head."
Deputies were called to 306 Scott St. at 7:10 p.m. Sunday for a report of an injured woman.
Gilberg was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office. Officials said they do not believe the shooting was a random act.
Neighbors told News 3 there was some kind of commotion in the garage shortly before investigators showed up Sunday night.
Mahoney said Gilberg owned the house, and was the only person living in there at the time of the incident. Gilberg was discovered by a family member who was checking on her.
Deputies said detectives have conducted more than 100 interviews, but no one has been charged.
