EAU CLAIRE, WI -

A 19-year-old Whitehall woman was found safe Tuesday afternoon after being held in a car on I-90 by a man she met online, the Wisconsin State Patrol said.

The Wisconsin State Patrol Eau Claire Post Communications Center received information about the teen being held against her will by a man from Edina, Minnesota, on Tuesday at about 12:50 p.m.

The victim was traveling westbound on Interstate 94 near Eau Claire in a black Chevrolet Equinox, the State Patrol said. Troopers stationed along several sectors of Interstate 94 between Eau Claire and Hudson so they could try to locate the vehicle and safely recover the victim. The victim had limited communication via text messaging.

The teen was able to convince the man that she had to use the restroom, so he stopped at the next exit ramp. The victim was able to communicate to law enforcement that she was in a rest room at the Holiday Gas Station near an Elk Mound exit, the State Patrol said.

Authorities found the victim unharmed in the facility and arrested the man outside, near his vehicle. He was turned over to the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department.
