MIDDLETON, WI (AP) -

An 82-year-old Middleton widow who cleaned houses for a living has donated $100,000 for the city to begin work on a new 11-acre park.

A Wisconsin State Journal report says Lucille Taylor may not have been wealthy, but she lived a thrifty life and also made good investments.

Taylor says she and her late husband always wanted children but never had them. She says building a park for other kids was the next-best thing.

She says she originally planned to bequeath the money after her death because she didn't want anyone to know about the gift. But she says the opportunity to honor her family's name won her over.

The park will be called the Harvey John and Lucille Taylor Memorial Park. The first part could open as early as May.
