A local business is stepping up to help WAFER food pantry store produce.
Wine Guyz in La Crosse is donating a cooler to WAFER. Right now, WAFER stores their produce on tables.
They say the cooler will help them keep the produce longer and reduce waste.
The owner of Wine Guyz says the donation was motivated by her work with the Pioneering Healthier Communities committee. "Being part of that organization really sparked my interest in making the donation to WAFER to provide them with the opportunity to store their produce," said Wine Guyz Owner Cathy Tyink.
Schaumberg Refrigeration is donating their time to help move it and help with repairs.
The donation is coming at a time when WAFER is just struggling to stay dry. The WAFER building sustained flooding during the weekends storms.
Volunteers spent all of Sunday and most of Monday cleaning up, but there is a long way to go.
"We had some carpet removed this morning, all the carpeting in our building, WisCorps came in and removed that for us, there's quite a bit of damage to the dry wall and the company that's providing restoration services is going to continue monitoring that, it's very slow to dry out, we've got a lot of equipment in there running, like fans and dehumidifiers," said WAFER Executive Director Erin Waldhart.
WAFER hopes to have most of their product back in the building by tomorrow.
