LA CROSSE, Wis. -

The weather started to improve just in time for a local festival in La Crosse.

Wienerfest kicked off down at the Oktoberfest grounds Saturday afternoon.

People can get a free hotdog with admission.

There's even a hotdog eating contest.

Another main attraction of the event is the number of local bands that play live music.

Organizers said not only does it give people a way to enjoy time together but it also raises support for Oktoberfest.

"We started it a few years back to help raise money to support Oktoberfest. Actually a lot of events happen down at the grounds here every year so we look for other ways to use the facilities here and we came up with Wienerfest," said La Crosse Festivals Board of Directors member Brian Michaels.

Michaels said this is the seventh year they've hosted the event and each year it grows in popularity.
