What's legal, what's not for fireworks in La Crosse
The 4th of July means enjoying fireworks, but it's important to make sure you are being safe and legal.
La Crosse follows state code when it comes to fireworks. That means any fireworks that leave the ground or explode are illegal. You can obtain a permit through the city to use those types of fireworks. Some vendors try to sell permits, but those are not valid.
Breaking the rules can lead to a hefty fine. "If you do get caught with some of those things, some of those illegal fireworks, it can be up to $1,000 and forfeiture per item, so if you've got 10 roman candles that could be $10,000," said La Crosse Fire Dept. Lt. Bee Xiong.
Other illegal fireworks include firecrackers and bottle rockets.
