A local college is being recognized for its big savings through energy efficiency.
Western Technical college has saved 18% on energy costs, which is more than $525,000 in the past three years.
On the energy side, it's reduced the college's carbon footprint the same as taking nearly 600 cars off the road. That's earned the college the Environmental Excellence Award from the national energy conservation company it has been working with.
"Those savings allow us put more money into programs, that's the simplest way of looking at it, so we know we need to do more in training and provide education services for our community, this is taking resources from within to allow us to do that," said Western President Lee Rasch.
Rasch thinks with their upcoming renovations and projects, the savings could bump up to 30%.
