HOLMEN, WI -

Nearly 1 million babies do not survive birth each year.

On Saturday, community members honored those lost by participating in a Walk to Remember in Holmen.

The national event raises awareness about the loss and grief families experience after the death of a baby.

Organizers hope the walk does more than just raise awareness.

"We want to just make people more known about the pregnancy loss and awareness so they can, if they have a family member, or friend neighbor, or coworker, that  they know what they can do and not try to avoid the person. To just be aware that it's a common thing that occurs and to be there and to be supportive for those families in need," said Emily Stanton of Mayo Clinic Health System.
