LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

WAFER food pantry in La Crosse received a financial boost to help feed the older population in our community.

The Green Bay Packers Foundation awarded WAFER a $5,000 grant, specifically for its Senior Share program.

Every month, about 200 seniors receive a food package containing 3-to-5 days' worth of food delivered right to their home.

"A lot of the participants in the program have physical limitations or they just don't have a way to get here because they just don't have a car,” said Erin Waldhart, WAFER’s executive director. “This program allows seniors to be in their homes just a little bit longer, allows them to be more independent.”

WAFER is one of nearly 200 groups around the state receiving funds from the Packers Foundation this year.
