February is American Heart month .
which aims to raise awareness about a variety of heart
And participants in a special event in Winona today
plunged into the friged waters to help raise money
for one special girl.
Makiah Logan who was born with a heart defect in December.

They may be from Minnesota ...
We're supposed to be thick-skinned.
But the folks here at the Cardinal Plunge are a little
bit more than just cold.
My feet are freezing!
I'm freezing! I'm from California so I'm not used
to this weather!
But I would say for Minnesota this is pretty cold

It was the first time she has ever participated in
Escape to the heat as soon as like, as soon as like,
30 seconds have passed.
Once she ready to go, with her granddaughter in mind
it's off to the ice.

It's an event the family appreciates because the funds
raised at the event will go directly to Mikiah's medical
care in the future.

We love getting our community together and making

People ask, why would you pay money to jump in, when
people should give you money to jump in, but that's
because you can actually do something with those funds,
