UW-La Crosse's chancellor invited students and their families to go for a jog around campus.
The seventh annual 'Run with the Chancellor' 5 or 10k is part of UW-L's family weekend.
Runners met at the Hoeschler Clock Tower on campus Saturday morning with UW-L's Chancellor Joe Gow.
The run is an opportunity for people meet the chancellor and see the campus.
Gow said the run is a great way for him to meet his students while starting his day with some morning exercise.
"I started this when I was inaugurated my first year and I thought, 'What better way to start the day then run,' because that's what I would normally do. And you know this is a big running culture here at UW- La Crosse so it works pretty well," said Gow.
Gow said this weekend not only shows students and their families what makes UW-L so special, but reminds him of how it's grown since he started working at UW-L.
"The essence of UW-L is family. We really are a close-knit group. So this weekend reminds us of that, and it's real special for me, I've been here seven years and it gets better every time," said Gow.
This year's run also serves as way for friends and family to honor the life of UW-L student Neala Frye.
Police found Frye's body last February in Onalaska after she left a bar and never returned home.
On Saturday, the marketing club Neala was director of did fundraising to keep her memory alive.
The club is selling T-shirts and bracelets to raise money to put toward the Neala Frye Scholarship fund.
Each year, a marketing student will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
The club hopes to give the scholarship to students who embody Neala's uplifting personality.
"Neala was just a really special person, very unique with her personality, just always made everyone happy. It was impossible not to smile when you were around her. So it's something we really want to keep that spirit alive," said UW-L's American Marketing Association president Danielle Wiedmeyer.
The club hopes to raise $25,000 to put towards the scholarship fund.
