A bike loaner initiative at UW-La Crosse is out of supply.
The Green Bike program started nine years ago. Students fixed up 100 bikes, painted them green, and left them on campus and in the community for people to use.
Since then, students have picked up more than 500 bikes and rented them out to other students.
This year, they were able to hire more bike mechanics and went through the supply of bikes and bike parts.
"Students are just looking for inexpensive rides, we've always had a long waiting list, and this year with our two mechanics we were able to get all of our bikes fixed and all of them rented," said UW-L's Asst. Dir. of Rec Sports Nathan Barnhart.
This is the first time the program has run out of bikes to fix up. You can learn more about it and how to donate old or unwanted bikes at uwlax.edu/recsports.
