LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

The Great River United Way kicks off its annual fundraising campaign Wednesday.

The Campaign Kickoff Breakfast this morning marked the beginning of the community fundraising efforts. With the Winona United Way closing at the end of the year, the Great Rivers United Way is now serving two more counties; Buffalo and Trempealeau.

This year's campaign benefits education, income, health, and other community needs programs in the area.

Campaign organizers say our community is what makes the Great Rivers United Way so effective.

"We're excited from the fact that this is a generous community, and we see that through and through every year, and we're excited about the people that are here and the companies that support us every year,” said United Way Campaign Co-Chair Dave Ring.

The Great Rivers United Way is already half way to their $2-million goal thanks to donations from Pacesetter Companies.
