LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

Ugly Christmas sweaters may not be stylish but hopefully they're warm.

About 550 runners put on their ugliest holiday attire for the Ugly Sweater 5k at Riverside Park in La Crosse.

It's put on by Rotary After Hours and raises money for kids in the community and abroad.

Organizers say they hope to raise $25,000 from Saturday's run.

They say it will help people in the La Crosse area and an ocean away.

"This year we're taking canned food donations from rotary to donate to food banks in the area. We're also donating some of the money raised to the Reed clinic for tutoring services for students and we're donating money to a school in Uganda to buy textbooks, bicycles and desks," said organizer Lindsay Johnson.

The Ugly Sweater Run has been a tradition for seven years, but this is the first year Rotary After hours has organized the event.
