Two La Crosse parking ramps are in desperate need of repair, but the city is unsure when they're going to be able to do it.
The Public Works Department has found problems with the Market St. and La Crosse Center ramps. They've found concrete falling apart and rusty re-bar.
Some parking stalls have actually been closed because of the damage.
Unfortunately, the repairs will be expensive and not in the budget, so public works' officials aren't sure when they are going to get done. But they say the city can't wait too long. "They are just going to get worse over time, and some of them are borderline emergency type issues, when we have chunks of concrete falling out of the ceiling that's pretty dangerous, we should do something about that sooner than later," said Asst. Public Work's Director Robert Haines.
The ramps are between 20 and 30 years old and shouldn't be having these problems.
Public works isn't sure if it's a design flaw, bad materials or just bad construction.
