A difficult growing season has forced micro-breweries in Wisconsin to get a little more creative.
The Racine Journal Times reports that Charles McGonegal of AEppleTreow Winery & Distillery in Brighton said the warmer-than-normal March meant trees began to bud early, and that was followed by a normal April which included six "killing frosts."
McGonegal says he went with more fruity and floral flavors this year after he lost 70 percent of his apple crop.
Charles Cook was among thousands who attended the Great Lake Brew Fest on Saturday. He says he noticed that ciders and fruit wines switched to alternatives, and came up with new ideas.
Festival goer Kristy Cook says micro-brewers and cider makers also have become more creative because of consumers' changes in diet and allergies.
