LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

The Tomah V.A.  held its memorial day observance Friday.

The service included music by both the Tomah high school band and a performance by a local veteran. There was also the annual 'Tribute to the Fallen', a reading of the names of Wisconsin service members who have died in combat.

Chief Warrant Officer 4 Tim Pickerill, the Support Maintenance Technician, Regional Training Site-Maintenance at Fort McCoy was the key note speaker at the ceremony.

He  hopes the service reminds people of what memorial day really stands for

"Holiday's are getting commercialized, This was kind of my way to bring back, memorial day means memorials, and a memorial is something remembers our fallen, our vets that our gone the guys that have served our country to make it what it is today," said Pickerill.

More than a 100 people showed up for the ceremony.
