TOMAH, Wis. (WKBT) -

When checking out at the grocery store you might not realize the technique behind bagging your groceries.

On Tuesday morning eight "baggers" from Burnstad's Market in Tomah showed off their skills for a chance to be named Wisconsin's best "bagger" as part of the annual "Bag Off" competition.

Contestants are not only judged on how fast they pack a bag but also how well they pack it.

“We don't want those glass bottles on the outside. We don't want the eggs under the watermelon, you know everything's got to be good. We don't want those magazines to be stuck in there and then crushed. We want our guests to go home with perfectly packed groceries all the time,” said Burnstad’s Market Manager Bob Johnson.

Brandon Tupper, 17, won Tuesday's bag off and will now go on to the state competition October 16 at the Kalahari in Wisconsin Dells.  If he wins he'll head to nationals in Las Vegas for the chance to win the $10,000 and a trip to New York to take on late night host David Letterman. Brandon has only been with the market three weeks.
