The Monroe County 911 Communications Center issued an alert at about 11:40 a.m. Thursday that there was a 911 telephone outage.
The outage affected 911 calls coming from landline phones for about 45 minutes, according to the Monroe County 911 Communications Center Director Randy Williams.
On Sunday, lightning struck a piece of CenturyLink's equipment. Williams said CenturyLink was the still in the process of replacing parts affected by the lightning strike Thursday morning, which caused the temporary outage.
He expects all of CenturyLink's equipment affected by the lightning strike should be fixed by this weekend. If you need to call 911 to report an emergency in Monroe County and there happens to be an intermittent outages, Williams said you should use your cell phone instead of your landline. the intermittent phone problems only affect landline phones.
The Sparta Police Department also tweeted about the issue Thursday morning, letting followers know the Sparta area was experiencing intermittent phone problems with CenturyLink, which may effect 911 calls.
