TREMPEALEAU, Wis. -

A 14-year-old suffered a minor injury to his hand due to an accidental shooting Monday night, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities responded to a La Crosse hospital to investigate a reported "accidental shooting" at about 9 p.m. Monday in Trempealeau.

The preliminary investigation shows the teen was trying to clear a malfunction of a .380 caliber semi-automatic handgun while he was target shooting. As the malfunction was being cleared, the gun discharged and the bullet grazed the teen’s hand, according to the Trempealeau County Sheriff’s Office. The teen needed minimal medical attention.

Right now there is no indication of foul play and the incident appears to have been unintentional.
