LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

It's been a cold winter yet people throughout the Coulee Region are still planning to jump into the Mississippi river for a good cause.

The annual Polar Plunge is taking place Saturday, March 1st.

Representatives from teams started checking in Wednesday night at Black River Beach in La Crosse for the plunge.

Despite the cold temperatures, organizers hope people remember why they're taking the plunge. "Mother nature is definitely putting polar in Polar Plunge this year, but we're definitely hoping a lot of people come out and take the plunge and support Special Olympics," said Polar Plunge committee member Kerry Gloede.

All of the proceeds from the Polar Plunge go to the Special Olympics.
