Hundreds of food and hygiene items were boxed up Wednesday night to go to our troops serving overseas.

Students at Coulee Christian School in West Salem collected the items earlier this week. Wednesday night, it was all packaged up with the help of Operation Homefront.

Things like beef jerky, nuts, and toothpaste are in the box.

It's extra meaningful for La Crosse Resident Chuck Hanson. Two of his sons are serving.

He says it's a small thing to do to keep in contact with his kids. "The kids know that something that comes from Operation Homefront means people have donated some of the items, volunteers have been working on this, and they get the sense that it's not just the family that's behind them, it's the whole community, and I think that's really important," said Hanson.

The items were shipped out and should arrive in time for Memorial Day.
