ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) -

Community members had the chance to watch athletes showcase their skills Saturday.

Special Olympics Wisconsin is hosting its District Outdoor Sports Tournament. It's an event that's been in our area for over ten years. More than 300 athletes are participating. Softball, tennis and Bocce are just a few of the different tournaments held. Organizers say it's a good pay off for the hard work the athletes put in.

"These athletes, they work and train hard,” said Dan Wigington, Special Olympics Wisconsin’s regional director of sports. “This is their chance to come and showcase their skills.  It means so much to them to come out here, play on these park and recreation diamonds in the community and to  be able to just show people what they are capable of doing."

The winning teams will head to Waukesha for the state tournaments in August.
