ONALASKA, Wis. -

Nearly 500 Special Olympians will be competing in Onalaska Saturday.

Teams from all over the state will compete for the district title. The winner of Saturday's games will advance to the state tournament in August.

Organizers say it's not all about wining the gold. It's also about having some fun while competing.  "I think it's really fun just to see all the athletes excel and they're so happy to even perform well and when they get a medal, it just brightens their day and brightens everyone's day. It's just really cool to see," said Special Olympics Sports Coordinator Kat Barkhahn.

Tournament officials are still looking for volunteers.  If you want to help out call (608) 789-7596.
