A new and improved pool is in the future for Sparta Residents.
Construction crews are digging into the aquatic center at Memorial park to make it bigger.
The nearly four and a half million dollar project replaces the center built almost 70 years ago with a new tube slide, lazy river, kiddy area, and bathhouse.
City officials have been talking about this for five years now and say this is a much needed remodel. "That stuff is all old, it's outdated, the building itself is starting to fall apart and the outside wings of it are falling into the ground, there's large cracks and the mechanical space inside the building is not very operational. We're constantly patching it together so we can keep the pool open," said Sparta Parks and Rec Director Brad Gilbertson.
The pool is expected to open some time next season.
