Preparing a Thanksgiving meal is quite a lengthy task, and Thursday, students at Southern Bluffs Elementary learned that first hand.

They were whipping up everything from the main course to the pumpkin pie. It was enough to serve 100 people.

The annual tradition started 20 years ago with a former teacher and her mother looking for a creative lesson. "First of all, they're learning about culture and tradition, they're also building into those math concepts, because cooking is a science, and so you also bring those math concepts in as well, and just the cooperative nature of doing something together," said principal Lisa Schreiner.

They'll heat up the food Friday for lunch. The students, family, and volunteers will enjoy the meal.
