LA CROSSE, WI (WKBT) -

Crews began sending snow to the slopes at Mt. La Crosse at 6 p.m. on Monday.

“It’s been over 5 years since we’ve been able to make snow this early,” said Mt. La Crosse’s General Manager Darcie Breidel.

Breidel hopes they’ll have enough upcoming cold, snow-making days to open by Thanksgiving weekend.

“It takes a long time to get enough snow,” Breidel said. “Out there skiing, you’re on 3-4 feet of snow at least, so really the advantage of making snow this early is that we can get big stockpiles of it and then we’ll leave it in big piles until the warm weather is done and then we’ll spread it around and then we’ll be ready to go.”
