LA CROSSE, WI -

The UW-L Screaming Eagles kicked off band camp on Sunday.

It's a week-straight of 12-hour days practicing and learning all the routines.

The band's president Kirsten Berg says they're always excited to start training and to meet all the new freshman joining the band this year. Their band jumped from 90 members to 120 members this year.

"We did a lot of recruiting this year," Berg said. "Every year we have an annual high school band day so we have high school band students come in to perform with us at a football game so I think that's really increased recruiting for freshman."

The band’s first performance will be in two weeks. The president says they'll also perform at the breast cancer awareness event Steppin' Out in Pink coming up in a few weeks.
