Salvation Army feeding more kids this summer

LA CROSSE, Wis. -

More kids are relying on the Salvation Army for one of their meals this year.

The "Feed the Kids" program provides a bag lunch for about 300 children in La Crosse and Onalaska on weekdays. That's a slight increase from last year.

To make sure every child gets a meal, the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to help deliver the lunches. And food donations are also needed.

"We could use pudding cups, jello cups, fruit cups, granola bars, any kind of fresh fruits or vegetables we can package into single serving sizes, and lunch meats so the kids can have something other than peanut butter once in a while," said Salvation Army Program Coordinator Vicky Martin.

Martin also says they have plenty of peanut butter, but need jelly.

Meals will not be provided on the fourth or fifth of July.
