Rising rivers prompts city to put out water pumps
The water levels have been rising in area rivers prompting the city to bring out special water pumps.
Six of the pumps have been scattered around different parts of the city.
In the case of a heavy rain event, the pumps will be switched on to help keep streets clear.
The storm water normally drains out through a piping system that leads to the Mississippi river. "But when the river stage is higher or elevated, we close those gates or those valves so that the water doesn't come into the city and start flooding some of the lower areas or lower streets," said Jared Greeno from the city's wastewater treatment plant.
The city has 15 portable pumps total. If the river goes up another foot, the remaining nine will be deployed.
