Retired teachers in the La Crosse area are staying busy with their free time.

The Retired Educators Association showed La Crosse Mayor Kabat just how busy they've been Monday.

The association converted its 11,000 hours of community service into a dollar amount and gave it to the mayor.

The check holds no actual monetary value ,but it totals more than $241,000 in community service hours. "We volunteer year round and we have taken our skills that we have learned in our profession out into the community and have given back to them in nursing homes playing the piano. back out in the schools helping with learning centers," said the President of the La Crosse Area Retired Educators Association Margaret Wood.

The 181 members meet once a month during the school year.
