LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -

There will be no beekeeping in residential areas of La Crosse for now.

The City Planning Committee rejected a beekeeping ordinance Tuesday saying there were too many issues with the permit process. But the committee plans to build on the idea to fix those issues and revisit the ordinance in October.

There has been a push for residential beekeeping as a way to not only make honey but to help local plant life.

"There's very clear evidence that bees are threatened all over the world and whatever we can do to help that situation out is very helpful in terms of the pollination of all kinds of things around our community,” said City Council Member Sara Sullivan.

There are similar ordinances already in place in Madison, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis.
