Congressman Ron Kind and his staff were safe and secure in his office when a lockdown was issued at the U.S. Capitol after shots were reported.
Rep. Kind released the following statement:
"My staff and I stayed safe and secure in my Capitol office once the order to shelter in place was given. The Capitol Police did an outstanding job of handling the situation on the ground and keeping us informed throughout the entire process. At no point was anyone in my office in danger. Now that the order to remain in our offices has been lifted, we have resumed regular activities.
I understand that an officer was injured at the scene; our thoughts and prayers are with that officer as are our hopes for a full recovery. All of us here are grateful to the Capitol Police and their partners in law enforcement who put their lives at risk everyday to keep us safe."
