Regional state solo and ensemble brings 1,000 high school students to Viterbo University

Regional state solo and ensemble...
LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - The talent of area student musicians was on display today.

Viterbo University hosted one of 11 regional State Solo and Ensemble competitions.

Over 1,000 high school musicians performed in front of judges, who provided feedback.

Singers, instrumentalists and ensembles all had a chance to be heard while learning how to take their skills to the next level.

Organizers say music can have a lasting impact on a student's life.

"Life without music is just very dull. To be able to bring this to not only themselves but to their families and their communities is such an amazing thing," said Theresa Mickinley, director of technology services for the Wisconsin Student Music Association.

The state solo and ensemble event has been held in La Crosse for 15 years.
