Warming Center to open in La Crosse Nov. 1st

LA CROSSE, WI - With temperatures dropping, one local organization is busy preparing a warm place for people to spend the night.

Catholic Charities in La Crosse is getting ready to open its warming center soon at First Baptist Church.

When its operational, the center will give up to 15 adults a warm place to stay overnight along with some food.

The warming center was opened because not everyone can use other shelters, whether they've been drinking or have other restrictions. "So we were having people trying to find whatever place they could, whether it was parking ramp, stairwells or trying to double up with friends if possible or just going anywhere they could, and sometimes spending the night outside, and we did have people freeze to death," said Mary Fitzpatrick from Catholic Charities.

Because of the permit they have, the shelter can't open until November first. The shelter is in need of volunteers and donations.
