Local students getting help for trip to Germany

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Some local students are getting help to travel overseas.

The German International Relations Committee is contributing $1,400 to help send a group of Central and Logan high school students to visit Germany. It's part of a nearly 25-year exchange program.

This past school year students at both schools hosted students from Germany. This summer it's their turn to be immersed in the foreign culture. "When you go to a place you get to experience the culture and how it feels to use the language, so you actually get the context it's being used in, instead of saying a bunch of words," says Matt Dietz, a student at Logan High School.

"I think it's really important to be immersed in a culture that you study, because then when you're really pushed into doing something, you learn it a lot better," says Anneliis Sartin-Tarm, a student at Central High School.

27 students from Central and Logan will be making the trip to Germany.
