Crowdfunding site aims to help La Crosse teachers

New website allows teachers to get help for classroom projects

Teacher Crowdfunding Website Launched

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) - Crowd-funding websites like Kickstarter and GoFundMe are popular ways to raise money for special projects. Now a local organization is helping teachers in La Crosse with a similar website.

National survey results show the average teacher spends between $400 and $500 a year out-of-pocket to fund classroom projects. To help teachers in the La Crosse School District with those expenses, the La Crosse Public Education Foundation launched a new website called "Support a School" this summer.

Executive Director David Stoeffler says the site provides teachers more opportunity to get some extra funding, while also getting the community involved in education.

"We have a grants program every year that teaches can apply for and we have many more grant requests than we can fund, so this is a way for teachers to take some control of that, to help promote these projects through Facebook and other means, and to get parents and other community members involved in supporting a specific project," said Stoeffler.

If you're interested in seeing which projects are asking for funding or want to support a project, you can visit the website.
