Iowa school district to build elementary school

MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) - A school district in eastern Iowa says it plans to demolish an old elementary school to build a new one.

Davenport television station KWQC reports the Muscatine School District will demolish Jefferson Elementary for a new building on existing grounds.

The new school will be built adjacent to the old building so students can continue to attend classes during construction. The old building will later be demolished.

The new building will include a designated drop-off area, as well as slower traffic and increased pedestrian safety. There also will be a new staff parking lot across the street.

Officials say they are still determining when construction will begin.
